31 October Taken about 20 minutes after the mound of rice husks photo, on my way home. It's a sundog or parhelion; there was a recent dpc forum thread about them.
THE spectrum colours were stonger looking at them in my sunglasses, and much stronger on the right side than the left side. They lasted maybe 15 or 20 minutes.
Processed to bring out more detail in the foreground, and if that isn't obvious I really had you fooled. ;-Þ
30 October Opposite one of my schools is this big pile of rice grain husks. The farmers process them inside a barn, and the husks are pumped out through the pump.
THIS is possibly the largest and most spectacular pile in the area, and probably the only one left, as most farmers burn them off (thus creating horrid smoke pollution, which hasn't been as bad this year as last year).
(And, yes, actually, taken on the 31st. I could have put in a pigeon, to go with the previous cat photo).
29 October I went for an evening walk and saw this cat sitting on a wall in a pool of light. Of course, the photo is very grainy...
28 October. My afternoon's work. I brought home some clay from last week's pottery class, and I bought a hand wheel (it's under the board).
IT's my own idea, inspired when I was sketching and recalling the shape of the building of the Australian Academy of Science in Canberra. The building is now called the Shine Dome.
THE end result will be a vase. First I made a cylinder using a beer can and put a base on it. Then I made a coiled pot, cut a hole in the bottom and attached the cup. Inverting it, I used a stencil to cut out the arched shapes in the pot. It'll stay that way until it's dry enough to stand by itself.
I GUESS it's pretty advanced work for a beginner, but at least I'll get to see it when it has dried out. The other four things aren't advanced at all - I just made some chopstick rests for a family I know, using the clay I cut out.
HMM, maybe I should have done some Levels or something in the editing of this photo...
27 October. Another thing or two on the wall. Actually taken on the 28th when the sun was actually shining through the frosted glass of the front door. It rained all day on the 27th because of Typhoon No. 20, which I didn't know about (don't watch very much TV...).
THESE are artificial floral and fructal arrangements made by my fiancee. The right one was really dark so I had to use the old editing program to bring it out more.
26 October Not great photographically (this shot, I mean ;-Þ). This was my published entry in last year's local newspaper's photo competition. I had to get a big print made (from the colour SLIDE, as it wasn't a digital picture), and provide a suitable frame for the exhibition.
KEEPING the somewhat expensive frame in case I need it again, I gave the print to one of my schools, and they framed it like this...
25 October. The fifth graders had to do a bit more than just running around the track. I could touch the second from left (2.6m, I think). I probably could touch the highest one with a bit of practice. ;-Þ
Fisheye lens still on the camera....
24 October (really, taken 25th... ;-Þ) Someone asked last week what the green mound is. This is the green mound, though it's less green than it was last week.
23 October The new library is nearing completion in the town where I work. This is the western side; the other side is probably more interesting.
THE paintings on the fence are by the art club of the junior high school.
